Courtship. He knew, of course. He’d smelled it on Edmund. As as a student of science, Al was apt to agree with Susan. The timing could be coincidental. This could be sincere on Edmund’s part, or it could be the information he’d gotten from whatever books he read.
Was Al colored by his own bias? He’d misjudged Edmund early. For all his observation, he’d never known Kala personally. It seemed she’d been respectful of Edmund so far. And she was a well suited match. Maybe it was jealousy. Maybe Al’s broken heart just couldn’t survive Edmund with anyone else. There was something wrong. But suddenly, Al wasn’t sure it was fair to blame Kala.
