That response alone told Al that he’d been right. Something was very wrong with Edmund. He wasn’t himself at all, and whatever he said or thought, Al was being the very best friend he knew how to be.
He ached to say something, to argue, but Edmund was in no place to hear it. Edmund could think whatever he wanted about Al’s motivations. Maybe that was for the best. It would only hurt more in the long run to tell him the truth.
He paused before Edmund left, the words all catching on his tongue. He couldn’t think fast enough to keep up. “Edmund, wait — the Pride.” Al spoke as if he was still a member. “They aren’t happy about Kala. Be careful.”
