There were other alphas who could care for him. Edmund had pointed it out himself. Al sighed, tucking himself around Edmund's form protectively, offering as much comfort with his bulk as he could manage.

He hadn't expected Edmund to beg him to stay. But it still stung to be dismissed so quickly. He thought about throwing the question back at Edmund -- what would he have wanted? But why bother? He already knew the answer.

"Do whatever you need. I'll stay here until this ends."

It was easier knowing he had a path out. Tomorrow he'd go see Peter and arrange his exit. He'd find another pack and rebuild. What other option did he have?
