Edmund drew up short, body and mind warring with conflicting messages to bridge the gap and to heed Al's wishes. It was to no purpose. Seeing him, smelling him there, it made his head swim. He staggered faintly, shaking his head. The implications of Al's words began to sink in.
He was not going to be mated. Not by Al. Not by anyone.
"Devices?" Edmund all but snarled. Panic and blind lust made him dizzy; disbelief and frustration only piled anger on top of the confusion. "Bullshit. That's not what I need, and you know it. Gods, Al..."
He clutched onto Al's arm to stay on his feet, and the bare contact of his skin against Al's skin had the furious warmth of his face to a bonfire at the peak of its blaze. Edmund hissed in a breath. "Tell me you don't feel it. You can't smell it. I will go mad if you don't help me. Please. Don't make me do this alone." His voice lost its ire and dropped to something small and pleading, as the thought of being forced to endure his heat by himself, trapped in the tent with a few inadequate bits of glass and sponge and smooth-handled wood, as if those could take the place of the warm-breathed Lion, crashed down on him in frightening detail.

He couldn't bear it.
