Al had no interest in fighting, it was true. And not out of pride, as so many alphas would claim. Al didn't think he was above dealing with betas at all. Nor was he driven to fight, slave to his basest instincts, as the worst Alphas were. No, Al had decided long ago exactly how much sway biology and hormones were going to have over his life. Alpha wasn't an excuse to be a brute.

Of course, an alpha was an alpha -- and when Edmund for the rag, tugging ever-so-playfully, he pinged every one of Alphonse's instincts. Al responded with a low, throaty growl of his own. No one had called him little since puberty.

To answer, he tugged on the towel -- hard. Al had every bit of strength his jaws and haunches implied, and then some. And the resulting tug was a powerful answer to Edmund's, with easily enough force to tow the panther along if he didn't let go.
